It was a miracle we even made it to Florence. We had to run
to both trains to get there, and to top it off our train from Milan was about 3
hours longer than we thought it would be. Everything we had to encounter was
worth it though. When we got there we located our hotel, and the man at the
front desk was SO SWEET and told us we got an upgraded room. We had a room
complete with a bathroom and a TV (which we later discovered had 1 English
channel – MTV complete with crappy shows like Teen Mom and Jersey Shore wooo!). We
left the hotel and had some amazing pizza. After pizza we wandered into down
and “just happened” to stumble into a wine shop. Bottle number one of Italian wine was purchased there. We wandered around the city for a while longer with plans
of making it to a beautiful view of the city. We were able to see some of the
most intricate cathedrals around the city. They looked as though they were made of paper; I have never seen anything like them. I’m in love with the Duomo (which
is a red dome in the middle of the city)! We soon discovered we didn’t have a
bottle opener, which became more of an issue. We were able to convince this
random waiter to open it for us and drank our bottle of wine in a random city
square while listening to Native Americans (Native Italians?..I don’t know the
proper word choice is) play music, and we finished the night with gelato!

The next day we started early at the Piazza Della Senioria.
This is where the “Statue of David” is (it’s a fake one, but nobody needs to
know that)! After that we headed to the Basilica Di Santa Croce. We had a tour of
it. Not only were we able to see the tombs of Michelangelo, Dante, and Galileo,
but we also were able to learn about art. Margy is really into art, so it
was cool hearing what she knew about the frescos and stuff she recognized from
her Art History course. Next, we went to Palazzo Pitti. We wandered around the Boboli Gardens for a while. It was beautiful!!! There were the prettiest views
of the city. On our way home we stopped at this beautiful bridge that is apparently the only bridge the Nazis didn't destroy when they left Italy during the war. After that we went for dinner. Margy and I both got gnocchi filled
with potato and topped with tomato and mozerella; it was amazing! Sarah went
with a different pasta, but it was just as delicate! Italy definitely lived up to its
name! We wandered around the city again. It’s such a beautiful city with so
much going on!
